Borehole

FWT has over 20 years experience in installing and servicing boreholes. In the event that a borehole requires inspection we have the specialist camera equipment required. (Borehole inspection service.) Initially a site visit is carried out to establish the feasibility, a suitable location and an estimated depth of the borehole. In certain circumstances a hydrological report is required. Detailed questions will be asked to enable us to install an efficient cost effective system to provide for your water needs. You can pump up to 20,000 litres a day without an abstraction license.

Installation

Drilling rig

Once an agreed site has been located, the borehole is drilled to the required depth. We use Apex Drilling Services or Geotechnical Engineering to drill the borehole. They have many years experience in this type of operation and they have a range of drilling rigs that are capable of drilling in difficult areas and down to great depth, should this prove necessary.

The well is drilled and lined and we then supply the expertise to get the water to the point of use at the right pressure and quality.

FWT use only quality, proven components ensuring installations of the highest standard and reliability. As every borehole  is individually tailored to your needs there are many features that are optional and a matter of customer preference, these will be discussed during the initial consultation.

The system

Our basic borehole includes high/low cut out probes as well as overload protection. Remote sensors and switching controls are installed to remove the risk of electric shock in the wet environment. These features prolong the life of the pump and reduce the risk of possible expense in the future. The borehole is fitted with a sealing flange and gasket to prevent any contamination from surface water run-off.

Borehole system

Depending on the yield of the borehole and the flow rates required at the point of use, the water can be either stored in a high quality potable water tank, providing a reserve for peak usage, or piped straight for use with a pressure vessel. A quality pressure vessel sized to your system will be used to reduce the number of starts of the pump, combined with a high flow 32mm down pipe, this reduces the friction loss, again prolonging the life of the borehole pump. The pressure vessel will require checking annually to ensure that it continues to protect the system.

Pumps and Controls

The pump controls and any other equipment required need to be installed in a suitable dry frost-free building. We can supply a quality insulated shed with frost prevention if required.

The water quality from boreholes is generally good. To ensure the quality of water from the borehole is fit for drinking we strongly advise a water test be carried out.

5" Borehole pump

We offer basic water testing in-house, this will give an indication of the hardness, ph and nitrate levels, along with indicating the presence of bacteria. If preferred we can arrange for a full laboratory analysis to be carried out.

Once the results are available any water treatment equipment necessary can be advised and can usually be installed in the same building.

Service

Once the borehole is drilled and lined FWT undertake the complete installation, from the digging of the trenches, laying of the water pipe and electric armoured cables, all electrical work and water testing ensuring that the installation is of the highest quality.  We offer an annual reminder and maintenance service for controls and pressure vessels.
